Day one: an easy arrival

At the airport (Nevşehir NAV or Kayseri ASR) you are met with a name sign and taken to the hotel by shared shuttle. Exploring your cave room, climbing to the terrace and walking out toward a valley view in the late afternoon are the work of the day. One of the evenings is set aside for the Turkish night: because the show runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, it falls on the first or second evening, depending on your dates. On stays that begin on a Sunday, the show may not fit; in that case we suggest moving your start date by a day.

Day two: balloon and Red Tour

You are collected long after midnight, between 03:30 and 05:45 depending on the season. At the launch field there are tea, coffee and a light breakfast, then the inflation, a Standard flight of about an hour and a non-alcoholic toast after landing. A late breakfast and a short rest at the hotel, and then at about 10:30 the Red Tour begins: Göreme Open Air Museum, Paşabağ, Devrent, Avanos and a view of Uçhisar Castle. Entrances and lunch are included.

Day three: Green Tour and farewell

The third day belongs to the Green Tour: the Derinkuyu underground city, a riverside walk in the Ihlara Valley, Selime Monastery and a Pigeon Valley viewpoint. The tour starts around 09:00 and ends late afternoon, followed by the airport transfer. This order assumes your flight home is in the late evening. If you leave early in the morning, we move the Green Tour to day one and leave day three free; we settle the details together on WhatsApp after booking.

The rhythm of three days

The three days have three tempos. Day one is slow: you settle in, climb to the terrace and get to know the town. Day two is intense; the balloon starts after midnight and the Red Tour joins at about 10:30. The short rest after a late breakfast is what eases it, so don't skip it. Day three asks the most walking: the low, narrow passages of Derinkuyu, the steps down into the Ihlara Valley and the riverside walk. Comfortable shoes and a thin sweater (it is cool underground) serve you best that day.

A small calculation for the Turkish night: on stays starting Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday the show falls on the first evening; on stays starting Monday, Wednesday or Friday, on the second. On the first evening the return is around 23:00, so sleep before the balloon is short; on the second, a long day is followed by a late evening, and the Green Tour, if on day three, starts around 09:00 the next morning. Either way the other evening is yours. The show does not run on Sundays, so for stays starting on a Sunday we suggest moving the date by a day; otherwise pick the start date that suits.

Two nights in a cave room

Sleeping inside the rock is the quiet star of this package. Stone walls hold the coolness through the day and keep warmth in during winter; in the morning light seeps into the room through a small window or from the courtyard. In most hotels breakfast is laid out on the terrace or in the courtyard. A suggestion for the free afternoon on day one: an easy walk of about an hour in Pigeon Valley between Göreme and Uçhisar, or a climb up Uçhisar Castle to watch the sunset. After the early start of the balloon morning most guests turn in early on the second evening, so we suggest not planning anything heavy for it.

Why three days

Three days also means a safety margin. If the balloon is cancelled for weather, the stay leaves a spare morning; the flight is moved free of charge to the next morning and day three is rearranged with you (the Green Tour might be postponed or shortened). Three days also leave a full night's sleep in the cave room, a gentle evening in between and an empty afternoon to wander by yourself. Children under 6 cannot fly in the balloon, so the package is free for them but includes no flight. We do not recommend the balloon for pregnant women or anyone with serious back or neck problems.
